Today is Good Friday. For some a day of contemplation, for some just a day off from work to go shopping and for others just a normal working day that holds no meaning what so ether. Not only is it the start of Easter it was also the end of a very good week for me when it came to writing.

I have been spending a lot of time on the promotion of my new book Frenzy a Daniel Jones Story while at the same trying to write its sequel Daniel Jones Doom. If you add in daily family life and the demands it makes on your time, especially when you have young children, I found I couldn't spend as much time on writing as I would have liked.

This week it was different. Everyday I was determined to spend at least five hours of my time purely on Daniel Jones Doom and I'm pleased to say I achieved this goal. It was hard at times because its the Easter school holidays so the young ones were a distraction, although one I don't mind having. Sometimes they can drive you crazy, but I can't live life without them.

Also I still have my dodgy tooth. After another visit to the dentist they still didn't remove it. The antibiotics had stopped the pain and now they have given me some extra strong mouth wash, but deep down I still believe the little bugger is going to go.

So all in all not a bad week and the weather has been sunny as well although a bit chilly. I don't plan to do much over the long weekend. Seeing long traffic jams on the news, and even more frustrated people standing at airports and train stations; I'm quite happy to go no further than my feet will carry me

According to the weather people it's going to be the usual type of fair you get the U.K over most Easters and that's cold, rainy, windy weather so for a change I've decided to buy myself a bottle of Port to warm the cockles of my heart as I get down to some more writing while my mind is in a creative frenzy.

So where every you are in the world this Easter period and what every your faith, or non-faith, I wish you all the best.

Regards

Mark.

It has been a week of pain and pleasure. Over the Christmas period and into the new year I suffered terrible tooth ache that drove me to the point of insanity. I was determined to keep my tooth and thus after four visits to the dentist I thought the problem had been sorted out without the need to having my tooth extracted.

For the last two months things having been going well until last Friday when out of the blue the very same tooth started to hurt. The gum underneath became inflamed and once again I suffered terrible pain. It was even worst at night when I lay my head down. Just the simplest of pressure would build up to the point were I would wake up at 2 am with incredible pain in jaw. I would have to get up, take a mouthful of painkillers, and spend the rest of the night sitting in the lounge waiting for relief.

I paid another visit to the dentist who put me on antibiotics and told me my tooth will finally need to come out. So next Tuesday I'm booked into for a sixth time at the dentist and the tooth will be pulled. The worst part about it is that I have been so tired during the day I have been unable to do my normal routine. No visits to the gym, no writing on my new manuscript, Daniel Jones Doom, and yesterday no Friday posting at always-hanging-around.

So that has been the pain but there has also been pleasure, and this bit involves my son whose birthday it was this week. It was such a joy to have all his presents and cards waiting on our bed for him first thing in the morning. I brewed some tea and the wife, my daughter and I sat in bed seeping our early morning brew while we watched our very excited son open all his gifts. The sear joy on his face was better than any pain killer invented by mankind.

Later in the day he had his birthday party with his friends. It's the Easter holidays in the U.K so through out the day family members visited, and at the end of the day we all sat around to enjoy pizza and garlic bread finished of with lashings of home made chocolate birthday cake proudly provided by his gran-mother.

His was allowed to stay up for an extra hour as a treat so he could carry on making his new Lego set, and by the time my head hot the pillow that evening I was too tired to worry about the pain in my jaw; that was until I woke up again at 2 am in pain.

So I'm sorry my posting is a day late but hopefully by next Friday I will be pain free alas also a tooth-less.

Regards

Mark.

It can be a lonely life as a writer because you're not working with a group of other people. In this industry you are working on your own and don't come into contact with other authors very often. Questions go around your mind, and without others in the same boat they can go unanswered. With this in mind I took the time to liaise with Robert Raker a fellow author who interviewed me last week, and who kindly responded by answering the same questions.

Its great to see his replies, and you can check out my ones on his own site at the link below. So please read, enjoy and take some time to find out more about Robert.

Q&A with Robert Raker, author of Entropy

Your novel Entropy has been released. Tell us a little bit about this book release:
Entropy takes place in a small town (in America) that is economically depressed. The town in the book is gripped by a series of crimes against children. The brutal crimes take a different toll on a disparate group of individuals; the scuba diver who retrieves the children’s bodies; the disfigured cellist who thinks he knows who’s responsible; the undercover federal agent; and the mother of one of the victim’s.  I based the surroundings around where I live in Philadelphia as many of the small towns were adversely affected by the economic downturn.

What genre do you like to write?
I would classify the genre I like to write as drama. I enjoy varying elements of crime, exploring the darker side of characters and how their environment and emotion affects their lives.

How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since second grade but never really focused on it entirely until I reached high school. At college, I took as many creative writing classes as I could while I studied Journalism at Pittsburgh University.

What is your least favorite part about writing?  The most?
I get frustrated when I have not written for some time and when I struggle to maintain a fluidity to the creative process.  It can take me some time to get back into the complexities of a character, and speak in their voice.

When you are not writing or editing what do you do for relaxation?
When I am not writing I read heavily, enjoy sporting events, live theater, instrumental music and most of all film.

What genre of books do you like to read?
Over the last few years, I have read from more genres that I had previously. I enjoy crime fiction (with an affinity for foreign detective fiction), general drama, horror and non-fiction, especially books centered in and on World War II.

What author(s) do you enjoy and why?
There are too many to list, but I enjoy Arnaldur Indridason, Jo Nesbo, Matthew Pearl and Jonathan Maberry. I love the intense attention to detail and emotional complexities they create for the characters and the landscapes around them.

Entropy is available now for download and in paperback. Please feel free to join me for general musings @RobertRaker1.
