Frenzy A Daniel Jones Story by Mark King
ISBN 9781846248771

For all new writers it can come as a shock when you realise just how many other author's there are out there in the big wide world all trying to get themselves noticed. Amazon in the U.K stock over two and a half million books alone and I think in America it's nearer five million, and that's book published just in English. If you take in all the books published in German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, the list is endless, and so are the amount of books.

One way for a new author to get people to talk about there book is to give some free copies away, although you are in it to make a living. Generally you can't do that if no one buys your book because they can get it for free.

I have given autographed copies away either to help raise money for charity events, or as competition give-aways connected to articles, and reviews. With this in mind I have listed below some links for articles or reviews published so far for frenzy, and at the very bottom I am going to give you a chance to get your hands on an autographed copy of my book.

Irene's book oasis

Iceni Magazine issue 2 page 35

Mr Ripley's enchanted books

Alison Jackson's book Reviews

Now it's time for you to win an autographed author's copy of Frenzy a Daniel Jones Story. Just email me the answer (with your full name and address, including Country/postcode) to the simple question below at markkingtheauthor@gmail.com and then I will pull the winners out of a hat. I have three copies to give away, and will send them to anywhere in the world that has a postal service. So no matter where you live be it in the U.K, America, Russia, Germany, France, India, China, Japan, South America, Asia or even Africa, you are all welcome to give it a go.

It's a hardlife

FRENZY a Daniel Jones Story by Mark King
ISBN 9781846248771

It's a hard life, but someone has to enjoy it.

As far as I know this is my very own saying, but if you know different then let me know at the above email address. I thought about this since the birth of the new baby boy that is now third in line for the British throne. People have their different views about the royal family and Kate as a new member of this institution. Nearly all are supportive with the general feeling that life isn't hard for people like that, and all they do is enjoy themselves as if they are talking about a different species of the human race.

Well as a man who was at the birth of both his children I can tell you that it doesn't matter how blue your blood is, or how much money you have in the bank, giving birth naturally is a painful experience for the mother, and stressful for the helpless partner who can't do much other than hold hands, and pray that all will turn out OK.

Everyone's life will involve hardship in one way or another. History is littered with family's that had it all and ended up in misery. Money is no guarantee for happiness although it helps to have a positive bank statement than a negative one because debt is a stress that can be as deadly as a heart attack.

I resigned and gave up a secure income during the worst economic crises in living memory to write Frenzy and money has been the one worry, other than failing to become an author, that is always at the back of mind. Because of this I have refused to take on any debt at all, in fact I have taken every opportunity  to pay off any money owed where possible.

It's a strange situation because the family income  has dropped by 50% over the last two and a half years, but so has our personal debt to the point where last week I was able to cancel all my personal overdraft accounts. I think it must have been a case when I was working that if I had it I spent it, and if I didn't have it then I just borrowed it, and then spent it all the same.

Now I have reached this point I am determined to keep it that way this is why I stopped the over-draft facilities, but! As always there is a but, a cloud is gathering on the horizon. With the families one and only car constantly in the garage bleeding us of any valuable income, we have no choice but to get rid of it.

Of course you know my views, and that is I would like to try and live without the need for a car, but the wife isn't happy, and other members of the family are backing her, so if the car goes it will need to be replaced by another (new one) in her view. This is the cloud that is swirling towards me like the thunder storms that have hit the U.K this week. I have no debt but at the same time I have little cash to invest. I'm not due any royalty payments for Frenzy until late September so the only way at the moment for a new car is to borrow for it! A battle is brewing.

Will I win? Will the wife get her way? Keep on reading for the clap of thunder is getting closer by the day.

Mark.

For the moment I'm  keeping to the status 'no chance' with three posting week every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I will give it another month and try to fit all my commitment in. If it becomes to much then I will go down to two days changing to every Tuesday and Friday.

On Sunday I watched a programme on BBC 2 about Uri Geller the man with the magic touch and is best known for bending spoons, while the wife uploaded pictures, and details, of items she wished to sell through Ebay. You may think he is a fraud, you make think he has true magic, but what ever it is he defiantly has charisma.

Me personally I am a true believer in the power of the mind, and one of my favourite books is the The Secret by  Rhonda Byrne www.thesecret.tv. It was a book that began to change my outlook on life, slowly to start with, but once I understood it's true meaning then it helped me to make great strides.

Some people will say Uri Geller is just a magician! I wouldn't call him that I would say he is a very good self publicist. He spent most of the interview flirting with the viewer revealing a tantalising glimpse of being a possible secret agent just like James Bond while working for various governments around the world, and then at the same time refusing to admit any of it. He showed just enough flesh about his life to get you excited, but then kept most of it hidden behind denials and secrecy.

The only sad bit about the whole programme was near the end. He was living like a prisoner in his home with it's 24hr surveillance, dozens of cameras and the fear for his own life, almost paranoid not the paranormal. If that's what fame does to you then I'm happy for my books to do well while my face is known to no one but to the people that I love and friends.

Mark.

Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has given me their views.

We have the car back after it spent three days in the garage refusing to play up. The mechanic diagnosed a faulty fuel injector, but when he double checked the problem cleared itself as if by divine intervention. The only thing that wasn't divine was having to pay £150 labour costs for the investigation work, but I suppose it's better than having to pay £300-400 I was expecting.

The wife was happy once more, and so was our young daughter as she packed her bags for the weekend camping trip with her Brownie group. She spent the previous weekend staying at a friends sleep-over party and has another next weekend, so for three weeks our family home will have been devoid of her presence. Our son was happy too as he didn't have to fight with his older sister for our attention.

It's strange in a way that as an adult you crave the day when your children finally grow up, and successfully leave the home so you can once again claim your own life back, but, and as I say there is always a but, I do miss her. When at night before I go to bed and check that she is safely, and soundly, tucked in I do wonder how I will feel the day when she finally says good by, and flies the nest.

I must count my lucky stars because events around the world show you can never take life for granted. One thing that did dig deep into my soul was the terrible events that happened in India when children at a primary school died after eating contaminated food. I felt for the parents because just like them I have two children at primary school who also have school dinners, and this type of thing can happen anywhere in the world. The sad thing about the whole affair is that it nearly didn't happen because the cook complained to the head teacher, but was told to carry on, and so carried out the orders.

It goes to show how easy most humans no matter where you are from, or from what back ground, will blindly follow what they are told to do. This is a thyme I use in Frenzy a Daniel Jones story as humanity believes what they are told by the Over-seers is the truth, and they happily follower the seven procedures.

Frenzy can now be purchased in India via www.amazon.in and I hope the people from this amazing country will enjoy frenzy as much as the rest of you from around the world who have read my book, and that all children one day where ever they live will feel safe and secure. .

Weather frenzy

Frenzy by Mark King
ISBN 9781846248771

Wow what weather we have been having in the U.K recently, two weeks of wall to wall sunshine. We have not seen the like of this for nearly ten years and I love every moment of it. Not having a car to use for most of the last fortnight has not been a problem for me when it's such a pleasure to walk, bike or take the bus to where ever I need to be. Of course once normal British weather returns and it's raining, cold, and dull, then I will be thankful for the use of a car. Until then I am lapping up every moment like a thirsty dog with a bowl full of water.

The only problem with having such lovely weather is that since the launch of Frenzy I have been distracted from writing the follow up book which I have at the moment titled, DOOM (A Daniel Jones Story). There is so much work involved with promoting Frenzy plus the daily tribulations of taking an equal roll in bringing up a young family, and of course when the sun is shining all you want to do is spend time outside! The heat can wear you out, and even though it's cooler inside the sun is a draw like a cold beer to a thirsty man. With my voluntary work and other jobs I do to bring in a few extra pounds to live, like being a church verger and stewarding, my spare time for writing seems to be very limited.

I need to start concentrating on my writing once more and have been looking at making cut backs in my other commitments. One of these is my blog at always-hanging-around. For all my regular followers around the world you will know that I post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It takes me about two to three hours to write each blog then another hour or two to double check spelling, grammar, make changes, and then post through various mediums.

With this in mind I have been thinking about cutting down to just two posts a week so freeing up one day where I can concentrate on writing my manuscript for Doom (A Daniel Jones Story). I do enjoy meeting people from around the world, from the U.K, Germany, U.S.A, Russia, France, Canada, China, Japan and many more from South America, Ukraine, Serbia, the list could go on and on.

The point is if you still want me to blog three times a weeks on the normal days then let me know by email at markkingtheauthor@gmail.com. If not I will go down to two days a week, what days will it be? I don't let know , maybe every Tuesday and Thursday? Maybe every Monday and Friday? Maybe every Wednesday and Saturday? Although I know one thing it won't be on a Sunday because we all deserve a day off!

Frantic frenzy.

I walked to the gym this morning at 06.45 in perfect weather ready for my 7am spinning class, and the return journey was even more enjoyable now I had finished my 45 minutes of cycling sweat, interspersed with a lot of huffing and puffing.

Without a car the children cycled to school with the wife, and as it was my son's sport day I decided to follow them half an hour later once I had finished breakfast, plus also take the chance to cool down a bit.

After my toast and tea I opened the garage, and looked at my bike nestled in the corner were it has been hibernating since last summer. I new I should have checked all was well with it the night before when I had more time, but I was expecting, or I should say hoping all would be O.K.

I was wrong. Both tyres were flat and needed pumping up. I had fifteen minuted left to get ready, fix the bike, and complete all the other small tasks needed doing, like closing all the windows and doors, before I had to leave in time to make my son's sports day.

No problem I thought! Well it took me five minutes of vigorous  thrusting while on my hands and knees with an old fashion hand pump before I realised no air was going into the tube. After a couple more minutes of trial and error I found out you needed to screw then pull up the end of the the little thing that sticks out of the tube.

I was knacked and the pool of sweat around my knees was increasing in size with the ever increasing heat outside. Another five minutes of very exhausting, frustrating and pointless, thrusting only confirmed that the tyre would still not inflate. I had been using a wrong adaptor head! With two minutes left I rushed with the panic increasing as fast as my over-heating body to shut all the windows, get changed, and lock all the doors before returning to give the bike a third go.

This time I pumped, and I pumped, and I pumped, and if you could win a medal in the Olympics for the fastest pumping action I would have won a gold medal.

I could give no more, my time had run out, and so had my energy, and both the tyres were only half inflated, but I had no choice, I now had to get on it, and pedal to my children's school as if I was sprinting for the winners line at the Tour De France. It was a frantic frenzy by Mark King believe me.

I made it with a minute to spare. I spent the next thirty minutes baking in the open as the sun beat down on the hottest of the day so far, but I enjoyed every moment.

Then there was the cycle home! By the time I walked through the front door I was ready for a lay down, and it was only 10.30!

Is there a moral to this story? Well I don't think so, but if you know better then feel free to let me know at the email address above.

Mark.

That's it, a wonderful weekend overshadowed by our bloody car because once again the Peugeot is playing up. Within a week after it came back from the garage it needs to return. I don't know what's up with it, other than the whole thing shakes when the engine is idling, but I now one thing I'm not going to spend another penny on it. If it costs hundreds to repair then I'm going to put it out of it's misery and send it to the scrap yard.

The wife is not happy about not having a car so unless she is prepared to go buy a new one then it's tough luck because I'm just feed up with wasting money on the damned beast.

It's not the only thing getting on my tits this week because my phone is also playing up too. The so called touch screen now doesn't liked to be touched. I can spend five minutes tapping the damned thing just to get a response.

Then there is my stupid laptop. The French like to label objects as male or female and I know my laptop must be female because just like my wife all it wants to do it stop me doing what I want to do, when I want to do it, while annoying me in the process.

I'm not a great lover of technology. Some people I know will go out and spend hundreds of pounds on the latest phone only to repeat that process twelve months later when the newest version of that same product comes out. To me I think they are just being ripped off, taken for a ride, conned, call it what you like, but when I invest in something new I want it to last ten years not ten months.

The problem is we have all become accustomed gadgets of all shapes and sizes, and it has becomes hard to live without them, just like with the family car. It can be done, but for most people it's just too frightening to contemplate so in the end I know what ever happens with the car the money will be found some how from somewhere, and there will be a car on our drive way by the weekend.

The sun is out once again and after a nice little siesta I feel good, plus it's Friday the second best day of the week after Saturday so you can't help but feel positive. Another reason things are looking up is that I have had another interview published on www.alicufc66.wordpress.com/2013/07/10/author-interview-mark-king/.

Please feel free to click on the link and have a read and then email me with your thoughts?

It's always a lot harder to complete an interview than you would think. You want to be interesting and witty at the same time, but then not make a fool of yourself in the process. The interviewer was an interesting lady called Alison Jack who publishers her own book web site at the above link. She herself will have her first book called Dory's Avengers released on the 29th of August this year so keep an eye out for it.

Looking back on the interview it reminded me of that famous saying that "everyone will have their five minutes of fame one day," and the fact that myself as an author doesn't really want just five minutes of fame. I would like to think that as the Daniel Jones series of books are published over the next ten years there is enough interest  in my story telling to last generations.

I don't care if my face is famous, but if in the future when I lay I my death bed knowing that the present youth of the day are still reading my books I know I have achieved all that I set out to do.

FRENZY by Mark King

I just don't feel like it today, writing that is. I had a lovely weekend and it carried on through Monday when I took the children swimming after school, and finished yesterday evening when I helped out at my daughters Brownie's barbecue.

I awoke feeling OK and went to a spinning class in my gym at 7 am, but now there is a but, I feel tired and drab like the weather outside which has changed from glorious sunshine to a chilly grey day. I just don't feel with it. It could be tiredness after the last hectic week alongside hot muggy mights were sleeping  in comfort is hard to do. What ever it is my posting will be short.

I've eaten a banana as somewhere I think I have heard or read that they can perk you up, but if it doesn't work then I'm going to go and lay on my bed, and have a lunch time siesta.

I like having a lunch time snooze it's something I have tried to do most of my life, but it's not always practical in today's society with the busy lives we lead. In hot countries people still have the lunch time siesta and if you  have the chance to take a little nap then enjoy it, because I do.

By the way my first title for today's posting was "what to write" but now I've changed it to "siesta" and as the banana hasn't had the effect I wanted I will hopefully be in the land of happy dreams by the time you read this.

always hanging around at Wimbledon

For tennis fans out there who have been always hanging around for at least seven decades waiting for a British winner at Wimbledon; well you dreams came true when Andy Murray finally did it, and won the Championship.

Like most people in these isles I only take an interest in tennis during the Wimbledon fortnight, and only up to the point when the last British hope is knocked out, so normally my interest is finished after about three days. But this year it went all the way, and when the winning ball was followed by the mighty cheer of the crowd there was a tear of joy in my eye.

The wife and mother-in-law love Wimbledon fortnight so watched the whole coverage from the moment it started on the BBC, but as it was such a lovely sunny, hot day I pottered about the garden, and prepared lunch for the family on the Barbecue. Every now and then I would pop into the lounge, sit down, and take in a game or two before returning to check the meat sizzling away in the garden.

I could tell when outside how well Murray was doing not just by the excitement bouncing through the open patio doors, but also by the cheers emanating from our neighbours house as they followed the match on television.

At 4 pm I dropped my daughter off at the Odean in Anglia Square for the pre-show preparations for her dance event that evening. The whole family had booked tickets for the show with plans made to meet outside the venue at 6 pm. I returned home to tidy up and have a shower as I stunk of smoke from the barbecue. By now Murray was winning and like most of the nation I became engrossed in the game.

It was now 5.10pm and time was running out for my shower, but he was so close now to winning I couldn't take the risk of missing a national event that had not happen in this country for over 77 years and may never happen again for another 77 years.

Soon it was 5.15pm then 5.20pm and time was running out for me to have a shower then get to my daughter's show on time. I could tell the tension was getting to my wife and mother-in-law as the prospect of the game hurtling towards 6pm or beyond dawned on them.

What should they do? Miss such a major sporting moment or turn up late for out daughters show?

Murray got to match point then blew it, then another match point, and then his third, and it looked as if it would slip away from him, so the game could end up going to a fourth, or even fifth set. Then it happened; he had clawed back the situation, and this time he was as cool as cucumber, and as deadly as a rattle snake. He won his match point and thus the Wimbledon championship. My wife jumped about the lounge and tears of joy strolled down the cheeks of my mother-in-law. I've not seen many of them since my father-in-law passed away and for a few precious moments everyone in the family felt happiness.

I rushed up stairs to have a shower why the ladies watched the court presentations and by 6pm we made it to the Odean with my parents too, and everyone settled down to watch my daughter dancing on stage.

And as for the question of would I be prepared to take the risk of turning up late to my daughters show, and take the risk of possibly missing her fives minutes on stage so I could watch Wimbledon history? Well you don't even need to ask that question because the answers would always be; never in a million years.

Mark.

In the days B.C (before children) me and wife had three cars, her car, my company vehicle and a two seat M.G soft-top. When our daughter came along simple maths dictates that three won't go into two so my little silver beauty had to go. When I resigned from my last job to start on my new writing path I lost that as well so the family was down to one car.

We have a Peugeot 407SE bought brand new and it has only 50,000 miles on the clock with a full service history so you would have thought it would be a reliable car, but you couldn't be further from the truth. Even when it was under warranty we had it back on various occasions to the dealerships garage for repairs. Once the three years were up then so was our safety net so it started to full apart on a grand scale. The car has been virtually rebuilt. and we could still spend more money on it than it is now worth. The latest problem at the end of last week cost £500 to repair. For three days we had no car, we had gone from a three car family to none at all.

I will never buy a Peugeot again unless their build quality improves, and so their customers trust, because if they don't then they will go the same way as the makers of out previous car before this, Rover!

Now it's o.k if you live in a big city like London or New York, or Munich with its wonderful public transport system and a car isn't required to get from A to B, but in a rural city like Norwich you come to believe that you can't live unless you have a car. But and as I say there is always a but, this new repair bill was the final straw that broke the camels back. I was prepared to scrap the Peugeot and live life without the four wheeled beast.

The wife went crazy demanding the use of a car but I wanted to give it go without it, and as the car would be in the garage for three days this was the perfect opportunity to give car free living ago. One day the children went to school by bike and the next on their scooters as I hurriedly followed up from the rear. I walked every where or caught the bus, and with bikes I found there was no hindrance to my life style, in fact just like the camping weekend I found the pace of life slowing to the point I enjoyed it.

I even lost a couple of pounds in weight that week without having to make any change to my eating or drinking routine.

The wife on the other hand was not happy, and when the garage phoned her to say it was ready she shot there in an instant with out any further discussions. I suppose there are just some things a lady can't live without?

Mark.

Monday's posting was short and today's maybe as well before we resume normal service. It's not because I'm still unwell although I'm still not 100% fit. Having the runs for three days makes you feel as if you have completed three marathons. No the reason is because at this very moment I'm sitting in the lounge with the laptop on my knees and Wimbledon on the television.

Yes it's that time of year when the British, for two weeks only, take an interest in tennis. National spirits rise on the hope of a British winner, and these hopes are now dashing about my television screen in the form of Andy Murry. The game is so tight my wife is screaming joyous noises normally reserved for the bedroom every time Murry wins a point, to be followed by low howls of disapproval when he loses one.

I just hope he wins, not because I have a great interest in the sport, but because the good lady will be so pumped up with joy I might end the night with my own grand-slam win. Of course if he losers then the only grunting coming from our house over the next twenty four hours will be from watching the ladies tennis on the   T.V.

So until we meet again on Friday lets just hope Andy Murry wins!

To all my readers out there in the big wide world from the U.K, America, Russia, Germany, Canada, Australia, China, France, India and now in Japan plus all the many others too numerous to mention please except my apologies, but I have been sick over the weekend.

I'm still not 100% fit today and was going to give today's posting a miss, but I just had to write something to let you know.

I have had the runs. It was terrible, it flowed quicker than a stream, and left me dehydrated, weak and tired. I have felt sick all weekend and have gone from hot flushes to feeling freezing cold.

I had a jolly boys outing planed with my friends by the seaside in Gt Yarmouth at the weekend, but was tucked up on the sofa in my dressing gown with a blanket by six o clock.

So until Wednesday when I hope to be back to full health, look after yourself, keep well, and safe.

Regards

Mark
